We are in Morley working on pick-up shots for the last battle as well as a few other scenes.
Kyle Drew is back to help operate the second camera for us. We’re glad to have him here for a couple of weeks.

We are grateful that Patrick Stilson allowed us the use of his property for the weekend, and the Green Country Church rented us their fellowship hall. We filmed with horses for two days, and all three of the main actors rode, which always keeps things interesting. The Actors:

In spite of difficult weather and thousands of mosquitoes, we had a great Morley shoot. We are thankful for God’s provision.

We arrived in
Muskegon yesterday afternoon for a two day shoot. It was good to be back in the hall where the filming began two years ago. We had a few scenes to film here, but Monday night we focused on the church scene. Six homeschool families played the part of the congregation.

Wow! What an incredible week this has been. We are ever thankful for the Lord’s continued blessing on this project. We have completed a rigorous week of a rotated schedule and intense, complicated filming, but the footage was definitely worth it. Living as owls, we spent nights at work and in the days we slept (or worked).

We baked over a hundred and fifty muffins and 20 dozen cookies.

We learned through scientific experimentation that after a certain number of hours, the brain ceases to function.

This week we are filming battles every night. Our clocks are completely turned around. Dusty, Morgan, and the two babies arrived late Monday night to join us.
Several British soldier extras have come over to help, and so far the filming has gone well.

Once again yesterday we filmed over twelve hours. Brian and Jeremy Ervin came over to act as generals. King Ambrosius has a new costume for this scene…it looks great!

This morning our family laid to rest our grandfather, Raymond Burns. We are all grateful to have been blessed with such a wonderful grandpa, but we grieve at this loss. We so appreciate all of the prayers and the support that many of you have already provided. Praise God that we can rest assured that we will meet Grandpa again in heaven someday.

This evening, we started filming in one of our most intricately designed sets ever! Last night, Nick and Aaron-the set designers-with the crew’s help began to transform the Northern Burns’ garage into a fifth century tent. There are many advantages to having the set in the garage, one of which is the controlled lighting, which makes filming easier. We always seem to be racing the setting sun! We finished the set this afternoon, only 2 hours late! It is really fun to watch the set grow.

The acting in this scene was great! Praise the Lord! The crew started filming at 4 PM and didn’t finish until 4 AM.

Nick, Aaron, Peter, Nathan, and Andrea Dewar spent last week preparing the set for Saturday’s filming. They built a thriving market in the village in our yard. On Saturday morning, Marilyn went to the grocery store to pick up the fresh props for the scene. She recalled, “I got several strange looks going through the store with a cart full of…onions, leeks, shallots, sweet potatoes, yellow squash, beets, turnips, carrots, acorn squash, cucumbers, green onions, nuts, muscles, and fish!” We had roughly twenty extras in the village market scene. With the call of “FRESH FISH!!!” the market came to life.

Unfortunately, we had to battle with intermittent rain, clouds, and sun all day. Although the weather did slow us down, we were able to complete all that we needed to. At dusk we filmed the Saxons pillaging the market. They burned the booths and chased British villagers through the town.

We were blessed by the generosity of the Ryan family, who provided the food for the day. Praise God for answering our prayers and blessing us in ways we never could have foreseen.
