Filming in the Rain

Cast and crew were on sight by 7:30 this morning. We had horses again today, many thanks to the Tittsworth family for the use of them.

After lunch, it began to pour. Praise the Lord! We had been praying for rain, and God provided it. It fit the scene perfectly. Wet hair and costumes just put the finishing touch on the whole thing.

The rain let up after we finished that scene. At that point everyone moved down to the bottom of the hill to the swamp, where we finished the day by filming a swamp battle.

Night Battle

Posted by Shannon and Sara Burns at 4:27 pm on Aug. 21, 2007.

This past week was mainly focused on one scene, the battle at the beginning of the movie. This battle is fought during the night, so we stayed up several nights to film. Wednesday night we filmed some exploding catapult shots. (We went to bed at 8:30 a.m.)

Thursday night we filmed the sword fight between Hengest and Justinian. Quinlain was Hengest’s stunt double for the fight. During the fight Quinlain accidentally hit Justinian right above the eye with his fake axe. After a brief moment of panic, Justinian said that he would leave the cut until we finished filming, because it added to the scene. We went to bed early, at 4:00 a.m.!

Friday was the second most important filming day of the movie. Over 130 people were at our house throughout the day! In the afternoon, we filmed the first part of this scene, where the villagers are preparing for the coming attack. We had some great extras! We also a bunch of animals in the village. It looked quite realistic.

After dark, we filmed the attack scene, where the villagers are attempting to defend themselves against the Saxons. The Saxons broke down the door using their battering ram. We filmed all night and into the early morning, finally crashing in our beds around 9:00 a.m.!

Monday night, we filmed a quick shot of one of our houses exploding when a Saxon fire bomb hits it.

Yesterday we filmed some lighthearted scenes with Artos and his sister. Rebecca Wixom played his little sister, Adria and she did a great job! She really looks like she could have been Aaron’s sister.

We moved from the field to the hillfort after dark and filmed a more intense scene. Rebecca was awesome.

Friday night we began filming again after a short break to plan and edit. We have now begun our last segment of filming. We hope to finish filming by the end of the month! Last Friday night, we filmed the first segment of the hillfort battle, which begins the movie. Once again, we filmed the entire night long.

Recent Blessings

Posted by saraburns at 10:19 pm on Aug. 8, 2007.

Mr. and Mrs. David and Nancy Jackson have become citizens of Arfon, and the Atherton family has recently sponsored Cadeyern. We thank God for his abundant blessings. Not only are people sponsoring the Pendragon Project, but many people have given of their time to help out. While buying supplies to make thirty Saxon shields, Peter discovered that it was going to cost forty dollars just for the wood and necessary cutting. Even with small need, God provided by allowing us to meet two friendly workers at our local hardware store, Pam and Joshua. Pam willingly helped us and found a large amount of scrap wood which we could have for free. Then Joshua cut the wood into squares for us. With their help, in the end it only cost ten dollars! This is only one example of many stories where people have caught the vision of the film, and helped to make it a reality.
