Today we filmed a Saxon feast scene. We constructed a large Saxon pavilion for the feasters to eat in, and the set looked really neat. Our extras were very good natured as they sat in the hot pavilion wearing heavy tunics and furs, and we are very thankful for their patience. One of our extras, a servant boy, played the pennywhistle for the feasters. In the evening, our neighbors graciously allowed us to use their beautiful cream colored horse for Amarillus (Kimmie) to ride.

Last night was our second official all-night film shoot. We shot the scene where Artos talks with his spiritual mentor, Lailoken, for the second time. There are advantages to filming after dark, because the set’s lighting remains the same all night. The filming went well, and we were very thankful for those who stayed up at the house to supply the cast and crew with sandwiches and cookies!

This evening we filmed one of the most important scenes in Pendragon. In this scene, Artos gives Christ’s message of forgiveness and hope to his former slave master, Raegenhere. Raegenhere was played by Howard Shepherd. He did a great job, and he put up with a lot. He allowed us to dress him up with hair beads and arm tattoos, he even agreed to wear a nose ring!

For this scene, Marilyn wrote down a few Bible verses in Latin on a parchment.

Monday morning we went down to Indiana for a week of filming at the Athertons. The Athertons are a homeschool family of 12 who have kindly opened their home and property to us. Tuesday we spent the entire day in the stable. We filmed scenes of Wenneveria talking to Artos about the Saxon winter raids. This was the first time we had the whole crew around horses.

Tuesday evening we filmed a short scene with Mr. Atherton on horseback. Everything went great.

Wednesday we began by costuming extras and getting them dirty. Then we promptly sent them to “the dungeon” (the Atherton’s cellar). All the extras were great, and while we filmed prison scenes, they willingly sat chained to the walls!

In the evening, we filmed on the crest of a beautiful hill with the princess and her ladies picking herbs.

Thursday was focused on horse riding scenes, and we praise the Lord that everything went well and everyone was safe. We had a wonderful time filming, and accomplished what we needed to complete.

Although the sets are empty, the noise of battle still rings as Nicholas and Chad spend hours editing the captured footage. Right now Chad is editing the footage from Ohio. It is really exciting to watch as each piece of film is fit together. Editing is time consuming and intense, and on average it takes about eight hours to edit one minute of film. First Chad goes through each tape and saves each clip onto his computer. After putting his favorite takes together, he sends it downstairs to Nicholas, the chief editor. These past three weeks of editing have been crucial for the project. Please pray for us as we continue to work on the project.
