“Awesome!”

Lydia Ashton is a film composer with ten years of experience writing classical music. Her music has been performed in many countries including Italy, England, Slovenia, Sweden and the US. During the last two years, she has worked on eleven film projects and was excited when to be brought onto the Pendragon team.

When she is not composing, Lydia likes to read, bake, cook, write poetry, and draw. She plays the viola with the Tulsa Signature Symphony and Tuloma Quartet. She also takes care of her three children, husband, and cat.

Pendragon is Lydia’s first Orchestration and Programming credit for a feature film. She worked closely with Aaron and Marilyn to make sure their vision for each cue became a sonic reality. Lydia said, “I had never been part of such a large team working on a score before, so it was very gratifying to see how everyone’s different pieces fit together and created something greater than we could have done on our own.”

Lydia often works nights and sleeps days. “As soon as I put my children to bed I would start working on the score and sometimes I worked until it was time to send them to school the next day,” she recalls. Her favorite memories from Pendragon are middle of night Skype text-talks with Aaron and Marilyn. “I like composing in the middle of the night because the world is silent and I can finally hear the music bouncing around in my head. But trying to explain a musical phrase in a text message can get weird. (“OK - so no break in between the two du-- dum, rather Duuuudum!’... Ohhhh! Now I get it...”)

Lydia’s favorite Pendragon music cues are the Sword Dance and the Funeral. “I like the Sword Dance because I remember re-working it several times to get it to match what Marilyn was after. It was definitely worth all the effort since the final version is much better than the first. I also love the emotion and beauty of the Funeral scene.”
